The foundation of Faculty of Applied Linguistics was laid by establishing Professors Team of Comparative Linguistics and Terminology Studies on April 18, 2002 according to the order #95 of the President of Mongolian University of Science of Technology. The Department was headed by the leading professor Batbayar T. in 2002-2013 and Tsetsegmaa Ts. in 2013 -2014.

In 2014, the Professors Team was reorganized into the Department of Applied Linguistics. In 2019, it expanded its activity becoming the Faculty of Applied Linguistics and Tsetsegmaa Ts. was appointed as a Dean.

Since its establishment, there have been working 45 professors and lecturers, 10 of them have Sc.D and Ph.D degrees, 1 academician and 4 associate professors.

Nowadays, 20 professors and lecturers and 2 teaching assistants are working in the faculty, 25% of which have Sc.D and Ph.D degrees and 2 of them are a professor and an associate professor.

There are many lecturers at the faculty who raised their qualifications studying in developed countries including:

• 2001-2005 The Dean of the Faculty Tsetsegmaa Ts. completed the postgraduate program at Ivanovo State University, Russia and defended a Ph.D degree.

• 2003-2007 Lecturer Oyuntsetseg Ya. studied at School of Technology and Management, UK.
• 2008-2009 Lecturer Solongo Ts. completed the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program at Indiana University, USA.
• 2009 Senior lecturer Munkhtuya T. defended a Ph.D degree at Moscow State Pedagogical University, Russia.
• 2009-2011 Senior lecturer Uranbileg S. defended a master of TESOL at Flinders University, Australia.
• 2010-2012 Senior lecturers Baigal B. and Indra O. defended a master of education in Osaka University, Japan.
• 2011-2013 Lecturer Bulgan S. defended a master of TESOL at Canberra University, Australia.
• 2014-2017 Senior lecturer Chimedlkham E. completed the postgraduate program at Dokuz Eylul University, Turkey and defended a Ph.D degree.
• 2015-2017 Lecturer Enkhtsetseg T. defended a master of TESOL at La Trobe University, Australia.
• 2014 Senior lecturer Bayarmaa G. defended a Ph.D degree at MUST.
• 2017 Senior lecturer Munkhdelger Ts. defended a Ph.D degree at MUST.
• 2020 Senior lecturer Tuya D. defended a Ph.D degree at MUST.
